Last week in Makuhari Messe, Chiba City, Japan, automakers went mad and launched many new concept cars. Japanese automakers used their home turf advantage and launched seemingly good cars all around, while also focusing on their hybrid lineups. As a biennial event, the Tokyo Motor Show attracts Japanese, German, American and other Asian and European automakers to come and showcase their concept vehicles of the future. With it being one of the motoring world’s top five autoshows, automakers were only too happy to oblige.

Apple, Inc. is at the helm of conquering another area of electronics – the handheld gaming industry. Already a major hit on iPhones and iTouches everywhere, applications are flooding the iTunes App store. Out of the 85,000 now available on the App store, 21,000 are games. A lot of these games are also free, which makes them a very attractive option as an alternate to a handheld video game.

IIT’s Armour College of Engineering (ACE) and its various departments held a massive cookout event last Tuesday in the park next to Engineering 1 building. Attended by a large number of undergraduate and graduate students, the event can be labeled a success, based on the amount of students who were in attendance.

Back from a busy summer, the IIT Office of Sustainability presented their first forum of the academic year 2009 this past Thursday. Organized in the MTCC Ballroom, the semi-formal event attracted a wide mix of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members from various departments and some staff members.

This is a reply to the thought-provoking opinion article from a past issue, about the apparently astronomical cost of textbooks.
First of all, the article by Erik Johnson was a mix of intellect, math and entertainment. I especially loved the references to Xbox game systems, Doctor Who DVDs, and best of all – the Kindle. I have a few replies unto the topic of textbooks in general and the Kindle in specific.
