Is the world really going to end in 2012?

By Deepa Narayanaswamy

People always seem to want to predict exactly when the end of the world is near. There have been so many false dates set, you’d think people would learn from history. Back in 1988, an author wrote a book claiming that Jesus would Come Back in 1988. Unfortunately, when 1988 passed without Christ’s return, he changed his words to Jesus Will Come Back in 1989! Speaking of IIT: Global Grounds, Boondock Saints 2, radiation, and IPRO

By Linda Goldstein

Speaking of IIT, most nights at closing (10pm), Global Grounds has to throw out some unsold pastries and goods because they expire at midnight. I think that it would be good publicity if these leftovers were left at the front desk of MSV with a big sign that says “Free- courtesy of Global Grounds- expires at midnight.” Of course, to conform to health precautions, the goods would have to be thrown out at midnight (in the unlikely case that there were any left). It might even help with the ever-worrisome problem of publicity for the little cafe.

Some people should just keep their mouths shut... except they’re just too funny!

By Udayan Das

The most amusing piece of news I have read in recent times is about Billy Corgan (front man for The Smashing Pumpkins, a fairly decent band in its day) and his thoughts about the H1N1 pandemic. You can read his exact comments here on his blog. Among other things, Billy goes on declare that he is not taking the vaccine, because he doesn’t trust the people making the vaccines. [Obviously those vaccine makers have been pumping up those vaccines with all sorts of stuff for years.]

By Linda Goldstein

Speaking of IIT, several people at the “devcamp” conference held in MTCC this weekend Nov. 7-8 commented on the loveliness of the building and the grounds. The camp was about social networking applications- how to code them, how to keep them secure, and how to use them in the contexts of business and for-profit social networking.
