Political agenda in Comedy Central

By Abhishek Gundugurti

You would be surprised (and maybe not) that politicians, wannabe Presidents and celebrities are all using a new medium of communication. No, I am not talking about their telepathic skills to control your brain. I am talking about their regular appearances on the most watchable TV channel today, Comedy Central.
For those of us who are interested very much in politics and news, there is the channel called C-Span and C-Span 2 (I didn’t know there were so many people watching C-Span that they had to start C-span 2 to manage the crowds.) There is also the unbiased CNN and the very biased Fox network. There are other news programs every day highlighting the day’s major stories of how an astronaut acted an astro-nut, how the President faired in his golf game against the Vice President and how Britain continues to have lesser immigrants to America than Mexico (that was made up.)
But really, what you need in life is not all seriousness. You watch all these programs; you are almost on borderline between losing your temper and crying. Of course, the self-restraining stable minded person just does one thing at this situation. Change the channel. I do this every day too. From channel too-formal to channel 43 on the IIT network; Comedy Central. Now, I do this at exactly 10pm. That will land me at the World News Headquarters in New York, and the Daily Show hosted by Jon Stewart. If I really be in one of the TV shows in America, it would be this! There is good political satire, and there is bad political satire. This is just simple, ingenious and hilarious political satire. It has such a good theme to it every time. It can make the most trivial statement by an unsuspecting Senator and make him look a complete fool. It can also give a few positive brownie points for Senator John Doe if he is in the good books of Jon Stewart. Jon Stewart is an intelligent man, and knows right from wrong; good from evil; and he knows if you are being truthful or not. Only thing you needs after his show is a something to complement his style. Stephan Colbert is just what the doctor ordered. The Colbert Report is his show. He is an extremely popular republican enthusiast with dedication to his party and a devotion to the President (usually only a republican President.) His way of presenting the news if popular with his own fan following, the Colbert Nation. The emotion and fervor he puts into his show is ….well…very interesting.
So if you are too bored to watch Law and Order the 100th time in two weeks, just change the channel to Comedy Central. It is just not going make you bored. Better yet, you will stay politically knowledgeable about the latest addition to the long list of Presidential hopefuls for 2008.
