Since April Fools is coming up soon as of the time of writing, I keep wondering how our real world is a joke by itself. Why take a real day off to pay tribute to pranks when our whole life is a prank on its own? With this thought in mind, I am going to talk about how much I wish a few happenings (local and not) around us were an April Fools’ prank and not the reality. I want to wake up one day with the world announcing, “Gotchu, you got fooled!”
Starting with the awful midterms that most of us went through and got our grades for. This semester’s midterm was the biggest flunk that I have ever had throughout my entire school and college life combined. A few of my scores did not even do justice to whatever I have written, and maybe my TA’s showed me some mercy and decided to include a few points here and there to save my pride. I wish I woke up one day this week to hear my professors say, “Your midterms can be redone, and the previous scores don’t count.”
With the Office of Residence Life (ORL) announcing their summer housing and 25 fall housing plans, I am now really thinking about how broke the college is trying to make me. Why is it super costly when I can find apartments outside the campus for at least two times less the cost? I have a few of my friends living in a shared apartment paying $400 rent a month, which for three months makes up to $1200 when campus housing charges us $2500 plus a meal plan for the three summer months. How much I wish this was a prank and we got an email saying, “Haha we gotchu!! The revised summer housing cost is much lower”
With March feeling like forever, I wish it would just end with peace rather than fooling us with sun one day, wind and rain the other day. But who even cares about my wishes? Weather reports announcing a severe weather warning in areas south of interstate 80 and nearly all of Indiana this Sunday. Why? It is suspected that we might have a little snow, but wasn’t this supposed to be March? And now, it is April. I wish I woke up some day and heard that “summer is here, no more bad weather and wind, just expect warmth and bright sun.”
They say home is where the heart is, but a home in Indiana proves that wrong. The heart was not found, but anonymous skeletal remains were found at a home in Gary, Indiana, last Friday afternoon. Authorities are investigating the locals to identify the skeletal remains. We are way ahead of Halloween, so the fact that this could be a prank is disqualified. However, I hope with all my heart and soul that this is a prank and the cops to release a report saying, “sorry, the skeletons were fake and was an attempt to play a poor prank,” but unfortunately, that will probably not be the case and the world just became an even shittier place to live in.
